Trainee Instructor

Lendrick Muir, Nr Kinross

£50-£100/week (dependent on skills and experience) plus food and accommodation starting February/March 2009

Scripture Union Scotland is a registered charity that aims to help all of Scotland’s children and young people explore the significance of Jesus Christ for their lives.

We currently have a vacancy for a Trainee Instructor based at Lendrick Muir, near Kinross. Lendrick Muir is set in 120 acres with accommodation for 150 guests which regularly include school residential experiences and youth group weekends. We offer a range of outdoor activities to our guests, usually on-site, and use outdoor classroom concepts with schools to explore our grounds and the wildlife in them.

Working as part of the programme team you will be trained to lead activity sessions for our guests and to help maintain the activity equipment and infrastructure, in time taking responsibility for an area. During school residential experiences you will be involved in all aspects of caring for our guests including some evening work. Working closely with the Senior Instructor and Schools Programme Co-ordinator you will assist developing the range and quality of activities we offer, with an emphasis on relating these to the Curriculum for Excellence and core theme for the week

Applicants for this post should have a desire to work with young people and have a demonstrated interest in outdoor activities. They should have some previous experience working with young people. Registration with a National Governing Body (NGB) award training scheme and a full UK Driving License (preferably with D1 + E) would also be beneficial.

To gain the most from this post, applicants should be willing to commit to approximately 2 years, during which time we will support them developing their instructional and group work skills and in working towards NGB awards –climbing and trail cycling are often the first choice.

Catering Manager / Senior Cook

Lendrick Muir, Nr Kinross

£13,660 - £15,500 (Plus Accommodation)

Are you looking for an opportunity to work in a friendly environment, surrounded by beautiful countryside and helping to give children and young people a fantastic residential experience?

Set in the heart of Scotland, Lendrick Muir has 150 beds and is set in a 120 acre estate. School holiday times are fully booked with SU camps. Weekends see a range of groups enjoying the facilities, and during term-time, the Centre offers Educational Activity Breaks for school groups. Group sizes can vary between 10-150 people, and we offer catered, part-catered and self-catered options.

We are recruiting a new Catering Manager/Senior Cook to lead our small Catering Team at Lendrick Muir. A qualification in Intermediate Food Hygiene (City and Guilds 706/2 or equivalent), or working towards it, is essential and some experience in a catering environment is essential. Catering plays a very important part in the life of the centre, so we are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual who enjoys working in a team to deliver good food and a friendly service to our guests and staff.

Participating fully in the life and ministry of the Centre, when possible you will attend staff fellowship meetings and as work permits come to our daily staff morning prayer meetings.
